Beware of Rising SMS Text Message Fraud in Our Area

We are seeing an uptick in SMS text message fraud in our area. Fraudsters are targeting individuals with text messages that attempt to trick them into clicking on links or calling a phone number for more information. These messages often claim to be related to suspicious activity on an account or state that an account has been frozen, urging the recipient to take immediate action to resolve the issue.

This tactic is known as "SMSishing" – a form of phishing done through text messages. Scammers use the name of a trusted financial institution to gain access to sensitive information, such as credit card numbers and online banking credentials. The text will typically include a link or a phone number, both of which lead directly to a fraudster attempting to steal your personal information.

Here’s how you can protect yourself:

  • Stay alert: If you receive a text claiming to be from American 1, don’t click on any links or call the number provided in the message.
  • Verify the source: Call American 1 directly at our official phone number, (888) 213-2848, to confirm the legitimacy of any alerts.
  • Report suspicious messages: If something seems off, trust your instincts and let us know immediately.

Stay safe and always verify before you act!
