Summer in Michigan brings warm weather, late sunsets, and lots of outdoor activities! If you have a boat, you also can spend some of your time on the water, but if you don’t live on a lake, you need to find bodies of water that have public boating access. Below are some places you can go to that have public boat access.
Grass Lake - East of Jackson, the small town of Grass Lake awaits. The lake there is on the small side, but it provides a lovely quiet setting away from the city to relax on your boat.
Center Lake - If you’re looking to fish, Center Lake is an excellent choice. Center Lake is part of the Michigan Center Chain of Lakes, consisting of seven lakes connected by channels.
Wolf Lake - Wolf Lake, separated into two lakes (Big Wolf and Little Wolf Lake), is an excellent place to anchor as this lake has a great sandbar. Unfortunately, there isn’t a public boat launch directly on this lake; however, you can get to it through the channel if you load up in Center Lake (mentioned above).
South Haven Boat Launch - If you want to go on an adventure, South Haven Boat Launch is the place for you. Load your boat in the water, and you can set sail through the channel that leads through a big part of downtown South Haven. In addition, you have your choice of two main public beaches on your way to Lake Michigan.
