Jackson, MI – American 1 Credit Union recently awarded several scholarships of $1,000 each to graduating high school seniors from multiple southern Michigan counties.
The awards are part of American 1’s annual Community Involvement Scholarship Program. The scholarship application focuses on why the student needs the scholarship and how receiving an education would support them in changing their life – while also positively impacting their community. American 1 funds the scholarships through their Skip-a-Pay program, where credit union members can choose to skip one month’s loan payment for a $25 fee, and a portion of this fee funds the scholarship program.
“The number of outstanding submissions we received was truly heartwarming!” stated Haley Hemmig, Community Partnership Manager for American 1. “We received a submission from every community we serve, truly making this a community-based scholarship opportunity. I cannot wait to see these 15 recipients use their scholarships to not only advance their education, but also make a difference in their local community.”
Established in 1950, American 1 Credit Union serves over 65,000 members, including over 270 employees, with 17 branch locations across Jackson, Washtenaw, Hillsdale, Lenawee, Wayne, and Calhoun counties. American 1, recipient of the Forbes Best-in-State Credit Union Award for 2023, is proud to serve the members of its communities by creating financial wellness through personal everyday banking.
