Jackson, MI – American 1 Credit Union recently awarded several need-based scholarships of $1,000 each to graduating high school seniors from multiple southern Michigan counties, including Jackson, Washtenaw, Lenawee, Hillsdale, Calhoun, and Wayne.
The awards are part of American 1’s annual Community Involvement Scholarship Program. The scholarship application focuses on why the student needs the scholarship and how receiving an education would support them in changing their life – while also positively impacting their community. American 1 funds the scholarships through their Skip-a-Pay program, where credit union members can choose to skip one month’s loan payment for a $25 fee, and a portion of this fee funds the scholarship program.
“We could not be more thrilled to see the overwhelming number of submissions for scholarships from all the communities we support!” said Erica Estelle, Community Partnership Manager for American 1. “We cannot wait to see these 16 seniors use their scholarships to further their education and make a difference in their local communities. Many of the applications we received focused on the betterment of others and the environment around them. Wherever this journey may take these students, we are excited to see them make a difference.”
